Press Release

At Independent 2024, Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present work by four gallery artists in dialogue: Robert Lostutter, Christina Ramberg, Rebecca Shore, and Richard Wetzel.

Linked in overt as well as more subtle ways, Lostutter, Ramberg, Shore, and Wetzel all made their home base in Chicago and they are each broadly connected with the Imagist tradition. Focused on specific bodies of work, the booth features recent drawings by Robert Lostutter (b. 1939) from his Kyōsei series; early paintings along with a related drawing by Christina Ramberg (1946-1995), who is currently the subject of a major museum retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago (traveling to the Hammer Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art); a recently rediscovered trove of abstract gouaches and two new canvases by Rebecca Shore (b. 1956); and a wild salon of trophy-like wall-hanging sculptures from the 1990s by Richard Wetzel (b. 1943).

In a separate presentation, in collaboration with Anton Kern Gallery and as part of Independent 2024’s 15 x 15, a celebration of the art fair’s fifteenth year, CvsD is pleased to exhibit a painting by Margot Bergman (b. 1934). Choosing one artist from each of the event’s iterations, Independent invited CvsD and Kern to hearken back to their joint solo booth with Bergman in 2020.
