EXHIBITION | Barcelona, Spain | Omar Velázquez featured in Unspoken Identities, a group exhibition at Ana Mas Projects with work by Osvaldo Budet, Ivelisse Jiménez, Nora Maité Nieves, Glendalys Medina, Melissa Raymond & René Sandín, Javier Orfón, Ángel Otero, and Awilda Sterling. The exhibition brings together the work of nine artists of Puerto Rican origin, living both inside and outside the archipelago, with the intention of establishing a dialogue that expands the scenarios of interlocution of their respective bodies of work. Through formal and thematic bonds, the exhibition establishes exceptional dialogues that contribute to the consolidation of a self-critical view that, far from reaffirming itself in futile antagonisms, assumes its ambiguity as a tacit gesture of identity that does not need to be authorised. Thus, each of these proposals constitutes the printed testimony of a plural will to question the status quo and the hierarchies that are established around the construction of dominant narratives. In fact, it is precisely thanks to the visual production and the dialogues that the artists offer through their proposals that we can get a clearer idea about the dispute around the construction of the national imaginary.
