Press Release

In the exquisite confines of Place des Vosges, Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present a selection of new paintings and gouaches by Rebecca Shore. This is the first time Shore's work has been presented in Paris.

Rebecca Shore emerged in the 1980s as a unique voice in Chicago art, with connections to the Imagist tradition and a consistent vision all her own. An abstract painter for many years, Shore's most recent work has explored interior spaces depicted with a kind of linear perspective associated with the Italian renaissance – floors gridded out with orthographic lines, articulating spaces arranged with objects and architecture viewed in varying degrees of detail, windows and doors opening onto exterior skies and landscapes, sometimes a painting on the wall that in itself might suggest a competing portal into to another space. Clothed tables and beds with perfectly fitted spreads furnish the rooms, everything painted with great attention to facture and finish, the beautiful tooth of the linen substrate lending a tactility to each immaculate surface. These works rhyme with the interior architecture of the Place des Vosges room and the Parisian courtyard onto which it looks.
