Press Release

In the gallery’s first showing at Art Basel Miami Beach since 2019, Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present major new works by a selection of gallery artists. Among the booth’s emerging artists are figurative painters Celeste Rapone and Omar Velázquez, both of whom have recently enjoyed their first significant museum exhibitions. New paintings by Ellen Berkenblit and Rebecca Morris, artists whose work pushes the field of abstraction in different ways, as well as Magalie Guérin, Gabrielle Garland, and Lui Shtini, highlight CvsD’s commitment to the medium of painting. New tapestries by Swiss-born artist Christina Forrer and Philadelphia-based artist David Hartt suggest the importance of expressionist and conceptual textile work. CvsD will also be presenting a large-scale canvas by Albert Oehlen, a classic Joyce Pensato, and a recent cut-and-mixed work by John Sparagana. In anticipation of CvsD’s January exhibition, our booth will also include a new painting by Roscoe Mitchell, founding member of the Art Ensemble of Chicago (1968–present). This will mark the artist’s first ever solo exhibition and will feature work spanning 60 years.

In collaboration with Morán Morán, CvsD will present Cauleen Smith’s Space Station: A Rock in a River, 2022 in the Meridians sector of the fair. This immersive experience brings together, in one unique installation, elements of Smith’s recent video, sculpture and wallpaper work.
