Corbett vs. Dempsey presents… Sequesterfest (Vol. 6)
Let Our Rejoicing Rise: Joe McPhee & Tomeka Reid
Saturday, June 19th 2021, 7:00pm (Central Daylight Time)
Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present the sixth incarnation of its Sequesterfest series with first-ever duets between saxophonist, trumpeter, and valve trombonist Joe McPhee and cellist Tomeka Reid. The event is CvsD's first live in-house concert (by invitation only) since last March and will take place in front of an audience and live-streamed via the Experimental Sound Studio's Quarantine Concerts. Joe McPhee is a creative music legend. His 1970 record Nation Time remains one of the classics of free music, a call-to-arms for multiple generations of listeners who have answered the question: "What time is it?!" As a theme for this Juneteenth encounter with Chicago-based cellist Tomeka Reid, one of the leading lights of today's global improvised music scene, McPhee suggested a line from "Lift Every Voice and Sing," often referred to as the Black National Anthem. "Lift every voice and sing/Till earth and heaven ring," the song goes. "Ring with the harmonies of liberty/Let our rejoicing rise/High as the listening skies/Let it resound loud as the rolling sea."
Watch here on June 19th at 4pm (CT).
