In celebration of two new releases centered on Joe McPhee, please join us in the room dedicated to McPhee, where we will be playing the brand new "taster" vinyl LP Defiant Jazz, featuring five classic McPhee tracks from 1970 to 2007, including "Shakey Jake," the music featured on the "Defiant Jazz" episode of Severance. Also in rotation will be another new release from CvsD, Ken Vandermark's incredible homage to his mentor, the solo CD October Flowers for Joe McPhee. Both records are released at this afternoon event. McPhee and Vandermark will be present at the listening session.

Consider this an afternoon warm up for the evening at the Empty Bottle launching The Bottle Tapes: Selections from the Empty Bottle Jazz & Improvised Music Series, 1996-2005, a lavish 6-CD box set, also from your friends at CvsD. That event starts promptly at 5pm at the Empty Bottle, just up Western Avenue from the gallery.

Also, there will be Defiant Jazz hats. Just saying...
