Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present two of Chicago's most revered members of the creative music community, saxophonist Dave Rempis and drummer Tim Daisy. Rempis and Daisy will perform a set of improvised duets.
Since his days as a member of the Vandermark 5, starting 25 years ago, Dave Rempis has been a continuous force on Chicago's improvised music scene. After decades of hard work and personal development, including an essential 20+ year term at the helm of Elastic Arts Foundation, his scope of influence is now international, with a vast network of collaborators and admirers. Rempis runs his own very focused label, Aerophonic Records, dedicated to thoughtful documentation of many of his efforts. These include several with drummer Tim Daisy, who is equally central to the Windy City free music ethos and who also operates a musician-run label, Relay Recordings. Daisy and Rempis worked together in the Vandermark 5, and in 2005 they issued their first duo CD, Back to the Circle (Okka Disk), and since then they've released two more, Second Spring and Dodecahedron (2014 and 2018, respectively, both on Aerophonic). As stalwart members of their generation of Chicago musicians, they have nurtured a deep and playful musical relationship, which allows them to take greater risks and plumb the depths of their collective music. Come hear this installation of their ongoing dialogue for drums and horns.
As a special treat before and after the concert, CvsD welcomes Tona Paolomino, Sake Specialist for Breakthru Beverage, who will facilitate a sake tasting, featuring an array of different sakes. For our delectation – a rice wine fandango with color commentary by one of the city's top-shelf experts.
