BIO

b.1977, Germany

Lives and works in Munich and Paris.

An exceptional young painter based in Germany and France, Hedwig Eberle is a 2013 recipient of the Cité international des Arts Award in Paris. Eberle holds a degree from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she received a Fulbright scholarship. Her work relates to some of Chicago’s existential figurative painters of the 1950s, but with a distinctively contemporary visage.  Daringly painted with subtle and counter-intuitive color strategies, Eberle’s small heads are at once brutal and beautiful.
